I have always worked out and played sports throughout my life and at times felt discomfort and even pain, but was able to get through it. In December 2013, I was experiencing extreme pain in my right hip. It became so bad that I decided to finally see an orthopedic doctor. I saw 2 doctors who told me to try physical therapy. After some time, PT was not affective and I was still in pain. I had heard great things about Dr. Bryan Kelly at Hospital For Special Surgery. I went in for an appointment and was told I had an impingement and labrum tear that was severe. Dr. Kelly had told me that he specializes in these types of surgery. He introduced me to some of his staff that I would be in touch with and gave me information regarding the process. I watched a webinar that explained the specifics of the surgery and it provided many answers to questions I had. In May 2012, at age 40, I had my first surgery on my right hip. I went for PT 3x a week along with getting active release therapy (which helped immensely). I started getting pain in my left hip and went for x-rays and an MRI which showed the same results as my right hip did. I was upset but knew I had to do this otherwise it would get worse and I would be in more of a jam. After 6 months of PT on each hip, constant stretching and doing all the appropriate exercises that I was given, I was off to a new me. I am now 43 years old and take kickboxing, step and other fitness classes. I also played on a women's soccer team last spring and am able to do all the things I enjoy with my children and husband without a stitch of pain thanks to Dr. Kelly and his staff at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
