In 2009, I injured myself skiing and made the mistake of not going directly to HSS. I underwent what I would describe as “incomplete” surgery elsewhere and essentially lived with a partial tear of my ACL which became a full tear by Thanksgiving of 2014. In the meantime I was able to complete three marathons, participate in many bicycle century rides including the NYC Grand Fando and get through five ski seasons all while never having a fully intact ACL. I made my first appointment with Dr. Rose in December of 2014 and he was compassionate and understood that I wasn't ready to give up my activities. We discussed different graft options and after navigating through a ski season on a wobbly knee and knowing that I've got a 50th birthday coming towards the end of 2015 I decided that rather than cutting back on some of my favorite activities I would undergo a reconstruction of my ACL. While its early in my journey (surgery with Dr. Rose was 3/27/15), I look forward to making a full recovery and returning to sports. I would add that each visit with Dr. Rose was a real pleasure. I hardly had to wait in the waiting room and he was very understanding especially after I cancelled my first scheduled surgery in February.  I highly recommend Dr. Rose and his team at HSS!
