I developed arthritis in my left hip in my mid-40s due to hip dysplasia, a condition I didn’t even know I had until my hip started hurting. Over time, the pain slowly started to take away the activities I love most - especially hiking. I knew I needed to do something when I struggled to complete a three-mile hike that my family and I had been doing with our boys since they were toddlers.

When I met Dr. Vigdorchik and his team, they helped me feel confident that a total hip replacement was the right decision, even at what felt like a relatively young age. They took the time to answer my questions and made me feel comfortable moving forward.

My surgery was at the end of September. The experience at HSS was incredible - from the care I received that day to the fact that I walked into the hospital in the morning and walked out just a few hours later with a new hip.

My recovery went remarkably well. Within about a month I was back to my normal routine in New York City - walking around my neighborhood, climbing stairs, and getting back to everyday life - while continuing physical therapy to rebuild strength. My physical therapist even told me it was the best recovery they had ever seen.

This winter I was even able to get back on skis. And to celebrate the new year - and my new hip - I hiked eight miles through the Narrows in Zion National Park. It felt incredible to be back doing what I love.

Now I’m walking pain-free, have started jogging again with a friend, and am looking forward to a full summer of hiking with my family.

I’m incredibly grateful to Dr. Vigdorchik and the entire team at HSS for giving me these parts of my life back.
