In early 2025, I started experiencing pain in my left foot. It was surprising and random, hoping it would go away on its own. Despite the rest, the pain and immobilization continued to interfere with my everyday life. Mornings were the worst, and showed great discomfort and difficultly moving down stairs. I wasn’t able to play the sports I love and want to continue on for many more years.

After going to a couple podiatrists, I left feeling very discouraged, without confidence, and depressed. I wasn’t believing in the health care system anymore. PT wasn’t really helping and it was more of a short term relief.

I was then recommended to HSS since they helped my father who had a broken foot and other complications. My first appointment with Dr. Levine was everything I hoped for in meeting with a doctor. He patiently explained to me everything there is to know about the foot and the complications I could be facing. I knew at this point that if what was ailing me severe enough, agreeing to surgery was a no-brainer.

An MRI was soon scheduled and found that I suffered from Haglund’s deformity. Not wanting to wait for my MRI to be outdated, I immediately scheduled the surgery. This pain was something I didn’t want to tolerate for the rest of my life, or complicate other things that I wish to enjoy.

Scheduling the surgery was easy. The hospital was filled with kind and humorous nurses who easily erased any tension. After the surgery and to present day, I have felt the minimalist amount of pain and discomfort, except the annoyance of putting on a few pounds(hahaha).

I am now back to work and getting stronger each day. Progress has been smooth thus far, and can’t wait until I feel 100% again.

Many thanks to Dr. Levine and Samantha S. for all their help, and patience with the work and short term disability documents that I overflowed them with. I feel I owe them at least an ice cream.

My next appointment is a month or so away, where I hope to get back to a more active lifestyle. I understand the healing and strengthening takes time, and being patient is has always been easy for me.
