After my original orthopedic retired in early 2019 (post left knee replacement), my cousin introduced me to Dr. McLawhorn. Contrary to my original orthopedic, Dr. McLawhorn suggested I might not yet be a candidate to replace my right knee. In short, Dr. McLawhorn treated my right knee with shots for 5 very good, pain-free years.
After playing pickleball a few times in early 2024, the pain in my right knee came back. I scheduled an appt with Dr. McLawhorn for July 2nd and we scheduled knee replacement for July 24th. I was walking the hospital floor under my own power that same evening. I had some pain for 2 days, but was doing work in my yard 4 days later on July 28th. The pain was gone and the knee replacement was a non-event. I was on the stationary bike with full rotation within 5 days. My PT had never seen such an amazing recovery. This is all due to Dr. McLawhorn's approach. He works within a very narrow space and does all he can to not cut or touch muscles, ligaments, etc. that do not necessarily have to be touched or moved. His approach is less invasive, which translates in a much improved recovery period.
Importantly, I am not sure I have ever met a doctor that is as accessible, professional, and patient aware as Dr. McLawhorn. Frankly speaking, he is head and shoulders above the rest. It would be a mistake not to put your full faith in his care.
