I've had knee pain from arthritis for a few years now and had arthroscopic surgery on my right knee in 2009 at another hospital. This left me with a joint that's bone on bone. Lately, my situation was deteriorating fast, but luckily I found out about Hospital for Special Surgery from a radio show and decided to check it out. By the time I saw Dr. Halpern I had stopped to engage in all of the exercises I used to enjoy- I could barely walk. Dr. Halpern was great. He suggested I get an MRI and after a couple of visits, told me he could perform a procedure that would help me immensely. I went for the procedure as an outpatient, which took only a few minutes and had to take it easy only for a couple of days afterwards. Dr. Halpern also prescribed specific exercises for my knee, which I've been doing faithfully. After a couple of weeks I started to feel better. By now (3 months later) I'm back to walking for exercise 3 times a week and swimming 3 times a week. I was treated with kindness and respect by everyone at Hospital for Special Surgery and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get Back in the Game!

November 20, 2020:

I just had my 3 year post-op checkup with Dr. Boettner and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of my total right knee replacement! Before, during and after the operation, not only was the staff professional and kind but the operation went smoothly and Dr. Boettner listened to all my concerns and answered all my questions. Pretty soon I was back to walking and swimming for exercise (which I love to do) and that’s all thanks to Dr. Boettner’s expertise and excellence! He was caring but firm about the post op rehab exercises which produced great results. Thank you so much Dr. Boettner, Michelle and staff for your encouragement and support throughout this journey!
