I decided on Dr. McLawhorn and HSS Stamford after interviewing and researching 4 other orthopedic surgeons. I was extremely wary of getting my hip replaced even though I was in more and more pain and experiencing growing dysfunction. Dr. McLawhorn's approach was the only one that inspired enough confidence in me to have the surgery. I was not disappointed. The entire pre-op, surgical and post-operative experience was quite amazing. Dr. McLawhorn and his team were so tight. This is the best I can explain it; a perfectly oiled machine is how it felt. I went home walking with a cane 24 hours after surgery and needed nothing but acetaminophen to manage any post-surgical discomfort. I also much appreciated that there was no anesthesia "hangover" as I had a nerve block in lieu of general anesthesia. I followed his instructions to the letter and was walking 2 miles for exercise and about 4-5 miles daily by the end of 6 weeks. I am now 4 weeks into physical therapy, swimming, walking and practicing Tai Chi with very very little restriction. I am still following all his precautions and I plan to do another 6 weeks of PT. He is an incredible healer and I feel very grateful to have had him as my surgeon. My heartfelt thanks to both him and his team.
