I hurt my elbow while playing tennis. I was used to playing several times a week. However, after I hurt it, even though I took some time off, my elbow failed to heal. It became worse and began to interfere with my daily activities. I was not able to perform simple household tasks such as lifting light objects, opening doors, grocery shopping and walking my dogs. I could not plug in and unplug things the pain was so bad. I had a hard time even doing things such as cooking and washing dishes. I was not able to participate in any sports at all.
I went to see Dr. Brian Halpern at Hospital for Special Surgery. First we tried very specialized physical therapy. Unfortunately, the physical therapy did not help. My elbow was not healing. Dr. Halpern suggested that I try PRP, which is Platelet Rich Plasma treatment. The procedure was a lot less complicated than I thought it was going to be. It was also very quick. It hurt while the procedure was being performed, but then felt better the next day.
Within a few short months I was back to playing tennis. It is now over a year later and I have even started playing singles again which I did not think I would be able to do. My tendon has healed thanks to Dr. Halpern and PRP.
