In 2016, I had surgery to repair a torn labrum in my left shoulder. After about 8 months of rehab, I began developing pain in my left bicep. I was given a cortisone injection by my doctor and sent back to physical therapy for several weeks. The pain did not go away, so I knew I needed to take the next step.
I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Sabrina Strickland at HSS, and she explained that I would need bicep tenodesis surgery. My biceps tendon was irritated after the labrum repair and this procedure would help relieve the pain. Although I wasn't thrilled to be having another surgery, Dr. Strickland made me feel very comfortable and assured me this was a smart decision. She even drew a diagram of what the surgery would entail to help explain it to me better.
The surgery was successful, and I began physical therapy. My PT was extremely knowledgeable and kind, and great to work with. Both my PT and Dr. Strickland were available to answer any questions I had throughout my recovery.
Three months after surgery, I was able to fully enjoy a trip to Hawaii with my husband hiking, swimming and ziplining. Thanks HSS for getting me back in the game!
