Over five years ago, I suffered a devastating distal tibia pilon fracture. Recovery was complicated, and lingering issues from my initial ORIF surgery led me to Dr. S. Robert Rozbruch to explore ankle distraction. From our first email, he believed it could help—and that’s how our journey began.

During my ankle distraction arthroplasty, Dr. Rozbruch discovered necrosis at the bottom of my tibia and worried about possible joint collapse. Finding him when I did was crucial, giving me a real chance at the recovery I hoped for. Step by step, he guided me through every challenge with surgical skill, creativity, and steady optimism. His expertise - and his compassion - made it possible for me to get my life back.

Today, I ski at a high level in all conditions, recently completed a 120-mile bike ride through the Laurentian Mountains, and hike daily on local trails near my home in Montpelier, Vermont. Most importantly, I live my daily life without restriction—a freedom only those who have lost it can truly appreciate.

I had hoped to return to aggressive long-distance hiking, but I’ve let that go to protect the longevity of my joint. Even so, I’ve regained a level of mobility that feels deeply satisfying and one I am profoundly grateful for.

It took years to feel ready to write this story, because I wanted to be sure I was truly Back in the Game. Now I am - and it is, without a doubt, a dream come true. Thank you, Dr. Rozbruch and team, for making it possible.
