My name is Frank DiMaio. I am now 65 years old and I would like to tell you the story of how I got "Back in the Game". For several years prior to my total hip and knee replacements my mobility began to greatly decrease and the pain in my left hip and right knee began to dramatically increase. I was always a very active person in both my career and my personal life. The activities I had always enjoyed such as playing with my grandchildren, traveling, playing golf and walking started to become increasingly difficult. While on vacation with my family in the spring of 2012 I finally reached a point where I could not walk a city block without severe pain and swelling in my hip and knee. My right knee was completely bowed out and I was walking with a limp. In April of 2012 I consulted with Dr. Friedrich Boettner at Hospital for Special Surgery. He informed me that I needed a total left hip replacement and a total right knee replacement. At first I was both shocked and scared, but Dr. Boettner assured me that once the surgery and physical rehabilitation were completed the quality of my life would be much improved. In May 2012 Dr. Boettner performed the total hip replacement and in August 2012 the total knee replacement. My once bowed out knee is now straight. I am forever indebted to Dr. Boettner, his staff, and Hospital for Special Surgery who gave me back the active lifestyle I want to live and put me "Back in the Game" of life. My family and I will be forever grateful to Dr. Boettner and Hospital for Special Surgery for their expertise, quality of care and their compassion.
