From my initial meeting with Dr. McLawhorn through surgery and post-op recovery, my experience with HSS has been excellent! I did a fair amount of research on the procedure including interviewing three surgeons, and knew immediately Dr McLawhorn was the best surgeon to replace my right hip. His expertise with the anterior method is renown, and he and his entire staff are the epitome of professionalism.

Intake by HSS staff on the day of surgery was flawless, and Dr. McLawhorn answered all of my remaining questions, allaying any remaining nervousness about surgery. Immediate post op was attentive and professional throughout the night, with Dr. McLawhorn checking on me that night and the next day. Remarkably I didn’t experience pain, mostly swelling and stiffness.

Rehab was started immediately and what I appreciated the most is the specificity of Dr. McLawhorn’s instructions. For me the success of the operation was how quickly I recuperated and was able to resume “normal” activities. For that reason I purposely waited six months to write this review.

Following Dr. McLawhorn’s instructions and also having excellent physical therapists, I’m happy to report I just completed a trip to Machu Picchu in Peru, climbing to 8,500 feet ascending and descending difficult steps and terrain and had no trouble with my new hip! I used a trekking pole for support due to the unevenness of the terrain, however felt totally safe with my hip. I’ve resumed walking, swimming and other activities in addition to traveling overseas - in short I have my life back again!

Before surgery I couldn’t walk a block due to the pain, and now I’ve climbed Machu Picchu! I want to thank Dr. McLawhorn, his staff and everyone at HSS for their professionalism and unrelenting excellence dealing with patients! I’ve referred others to Dr. McLawhorn who have had their own excellent experiences as well!
