I was diagnosed with right hip dysplasia when I was a 15-month-old baby and prior to surgery, I suffered from severe osteoarthritis. My parents knew it was time to see a doctor when they realized that when I walked, I left my right leg behind. The last two years have especially been very hard without being able to enjoy swimming, aikido (a modern Japanese art), dancing, running, walking, cycling, and playing with my brother.

We saw a Spanish television show where a girl suffered a case like mine and had improved a lot, so we investigated until we found the name of the doctor who operated on her. We went to meet him in Spain, and he told us about a colleague of his named Dr. Jonathan Vigdorchik, who worked at HSS in New York, one of the best and most recognized hospitals in the world. Considering the complexity of my case due to my age, HSS and Dr. Vigdorchik would be the most appropriate to perform the replacement surgery on my right hip, so he did not hesitate to contact his colleague and present my case.

Dr. Vigdorchik is a wonderful person and professional. I knew that from the moment he learned about my case, he and his medical team were interested in helping me. The entire hospital care team – the Financial Assistance Department, International Center, interpreters, nurses, radiologists, and my physical therapist Wai-Kwong Hui – have treated us exquisitely, making us feel almost at home. The care I received at HSS was unbeatable. My family and I will be eternally grateful to the hospital and all the staff for the treatment and help received and for giving me the great opportunity to recover.

Now that I have a functional hip, I must push myself by following the recommendations given by the doctors and physical therapists, having patience, and thinking about my main motivation, which is to recover to do the same things as any kid my age. I know that I will achieve it!

Fui diagnosticada con displasia de cadera derecha cuando era una bebé de 15 meses y antes de la cirugía sufría de osteoartritis severa. Mis padres sabían que era hora de ver a un médico cuando se dieron cuenta de que cuando caminaba, dejaba atrás mi pierna derecha. Los últimos dos años han sido especialmente duros sin poder disfrutar de la natación, el aikido (un arte japonés moderno), bailar, correr, caminar, andar en bicicleta y jugar con mi hermano.

Vimos un programa de televisión en español donde una niña sufría un caso parecido al mío y había mejorado mucho, así que investigamos hasta dar con el nombre del médico que la operó y fuimos a conocerlo a la otra punta del país (en España), y él a su vez nos habló de un prestigioso cirujano colega suyo llamado Dr. Vigdorchik que trabajaba en el hospital HSS de Nueva York, uno de los mejores y más reconocidos hospitales del mundo. Considerando la complejidad de mi caso debido a mi edad, HSS y el Dr. Vigdorchik serían los más adecuados para realizar la cirugía de reemplazo en mi cadera derecha, por lo que no dudó en ponerse en contacto con su colega y presentarle mi caso.

El Dr. Vigdorchik es una persona y profesional maravilloso, sé que desde el primer momento en el que conoció mi caso se interesó por ayudarme, al igual que su preciado equipo médico. El equipo de atención del hospital al completo, empezando por el Departamento de Asistencia Financiera, el Centro Internacional, los intérpretes, las enfermeras, los radiólogos y mi fisioterapeuta Wai-Kwong Hui, nos han tratado de manera exquisita, haciéndonos sentir casi como en casa. La atención que recibí en HSS fue inmejorable. Mi familia y yo estaremos eternamente agradecidos al hospital y a todo el personal por el trato y ayuda recibida y haberme dado la grandísima oportunidad de recuperarme.

Ahora que tengo una cadera funcional, debo esforzarme siguiendo las recomendaciones dadas por los médicos y fisioterapeutas, teniendo paciencia y pensando en mi principal motivación, que es recuperarme para hacer las mismas cosas que cualquier chica/co de mi edad y sé que lo voy a conseguir, querer es poder!
