I tore my ACL and lateral meniscus on Nov. 1, 2016 while training for enduro racing. After meeting with Dr. DiFelice to assess the damage we agreed to a short timeline and a vigorous workout plan leading up to the Dec. 18 surgery. The three-hour-plus surgery went very well and I woke up in recovery with little pain or discomfort. Dr. D used a cadaver hamstring and titanium clips to ensure my knee would heal quickly and be able to sustain a high level of stress as I wanted to go back to racing dirt bikes and skiing. Over the next 7 months I trained hard with a lot of time on the bicycle rebuilding strength and flexibility. By June I was back on the dirt bike with full confidence in my knee. There were a few setbacks on the way but each time Dr. D walked me through a plan on how to overcome the issues. Attached is a small video to show that you don't have to live on the couch after ACL surgery.
