Before surgery I was experiencing pain in my right knee after walking even short distances. Several years before my surgery, I was able to walk as much as 6 miles in a day. Post femoral and tibial osteotomies, I have been pain-free. I have been making steady progress to regain my walking ability. I am working hard doing the exercises and motions that I keep learning from my PT sessions. However, I recognize that recovery takes longer due to my rehab. Every week at HSS PT, we take the exercises up a notch by adding something new. As soon as I master one task, my PT adds another that is incrementally harder for me. I am determined to get back my walking ability to where it once was and beyond. This is critical to my ability to perform everyday tasks, to live independently, to my ability to work full time at a job to support myself now that I have graduated college, to my well being and my overall quality of life. It is absolutely essential to continue PT on a regular basis.
