My name is Valerie and I'm 52 years old. I was born with a deformative condition knocked knees that caused my to be prone to patella dislocation. Later in my 20s I experienced a fall that caused total patella dislocation of my left kneecap. This condition caused years of pain, instability, and osteoarthritis. My mobility was severely limited and I believed I would never have straight or full functionality of my legs.
I searched for doctors to help, but to my dismay, none would take on my case. Then, at 45 years old, just when I had given up hope, I found HSS! Dr. Strickland and Dr. Fragomen are my heroes! My journey began in January 2017 with my first surgery on my left leg. In 2020 we started correction of the right leg. Since 2017, I've had a total of 6 surgeries, 3 on each leg. There were challenges but Dr. Strickland and Dr. Fragomen skillfully addressed them all! On March 10, 2023 I had my final hardware removal surgery. I am so grateful for these to amazing surgeons and their teams.
No more pain! No more patella dislocations! And my legs are straight for the first time in my life. I am so happy and I want everyone to know it is never too late. HSS is changing lives!
