I have led a fairly active lifestyle for the past 66 years, beginning with skiing at the age of 3, teaching skiing for 9 years, tennis since I was 7, basketball from age 10, skating, swimming, golf - you name it. My first knee injury was a torn ACL at the age of 30. When I could no longer ski or move around a tennis court to the level I became accustomed to or handle the pain and swelling, I consulted with Dr. J over the course of two years and ultimately decided on a total knee replacement of my left knee. Dr. J was extremely helpful, patient and knowledgeable. Despite my anxiety and fear of making the wrong decision, Dr. J didn’t pressure me but worked with me to decide on a knee replacement at my own pace. I had heard very good things about HSS from friends and acquaintances who had joint replacements. If I were to go ahead with the replacement I decided HSS would be the only hospital I would have it at. I was fortunate that Dr. J made a move to HSS just as I decided on the surgery.
