I am a 30+ year HSS patient, going all the way back to the early 90s when I had full ACL repairs, one in each knee, with Dr. Russell Warren. He warned me then that I would be very susceptible to arthritis in my knees, and he was 100% right. I had my left knee replaced at HSS in 2016 and needed to find a new surgeon for my right knee in 2023.
I knew without hesitation that I would return to HSS and fortunately for me, Dr. Gausden became my surgeon. She and her amazing PA, Hayden Newman, provided the best care and support you can imagine. I had a total knee replacement on a Monday and by that Friday, I didn't need to take any opioids for pain! I was also able to walk around my apartment (carefully) without assistance!
But the story didn't end there.
Two months after my surgery, I had a freak fall while crossing the street in Times Square and the lower part of the incision burst open. I called Hayden and within an hour of the fall, I was back at HSS, heading into the OR that evening with Dr. Kahlenberg, who was covering for Dr. Gausden during maternity leave. Fortunately, the implant was intact, so she debrided the area and stitched me back together.
I've since made a full recovery.
The entire team at HSS couldn't be more dedicated and committed to ensuring the best patient outcomes. Even when one of their very long days was over, they didn't hesitate to jump right back in to help me during a critical emergency.
HSS staff work so hard to provide the gold standard of care. I am forever grateful to Dr. Gausden and Dr. Kahlenberg, but also to everyone at HSS who truly go above and beyond every single time, for every single patient.
Thank you!
