I am a cornea transplant surgeon, and a commercial pilot. I own and fly my own jet, and have been very active skiing, biking, running, and flying. I recently tore the gluteus muscle from the hip bone during a fishing accident, requiring reattachment surgery. As a surgeon myself, I know many orthopedic surgeons, and sought many opinions before selecting HSS and Dr. Anil Ranawat. Everywhere I went, Dr. Ranawat's name came up for this complex hip repair.
I knew of the fine reputation of HSS, but was so impressed by the professionalism of the entire team, from the staff who greeted me at the front door, to the receptionists who treated me with respect and true concern. I was pleased to note that I was seen on time for all of my appointments at HSS, which is so unusual these days.
My surgery was done in October by Dr. Ranawat and his physician assistant, MaryClaire. I could not have been more pleased with their care, and began rehab 1 week after surgery. Dr. Ranawat and MaryClaire were available to answer all of my questions and concerns after surgery, which was a huge relief.
The rehab was no walk in the park, as explained before surgery. However, I am thrilled to report that 8 weeks later, I was back in the cockpit (see attached photos), flying along at 45,000 feet, much earlier than I ever thought possible. I am now walking without any assisted devices (crutches, cane), and anticipate a full recovery.
I cannot speak more highly of my experience at HSS, and of the skills and compassion of my surgeon and his PA. I am available to answer any questions that potential patients might have.
