My name is Taylor, and I have been running competitively since 7th grade. During my junior year of high school, I sustained an injury near my lumbar spine/sacroiliac joint. I thought it would go away on its own in a couple of weeks, but it persisted, leaving me out of running for months. I was devastated because running and racing had become part of my identity. When I came to HSS, Dr. Onel and my physical therapist, Yukiko, worked hard to diagnose my injury and help it improve. My injury persisted for months, but the HSS staff continued to be patient, encouraging, and helpful. Although there was never a clear diagnosis for my injury, the work I did with Yukiko eventually helped the injury to clear up on its own after a few more months. I am now back to running and racing, and I will be running in college next year. I will forever be grateful to HSS for the work they did with me.
