In 2013 I had just finished my last collegiate season of soccer. With aspirations to continue playing professionally and in general after college I know the pain in my left knee needed to be addressed by the best doctors around. For a long time I tried to maintain my knees and do exercises to strengthen them. A lot of wear and tear from soccer ultimately led me to go to HSS. When I was younger my kneecaps would sublux if I turned the wrong way while playing. I would come out of the game for about 10-15 minutes in pain and then go back in the game and play through the pain. For years I was in physical therapy and for years no doctor was able to tell me what exactly the issue was.

Arriving at Dr. Strickland's office brought me great comfort. As soon as I sat down in the waiting room, I saw pictures and framed jerseys of other female soccer players and athletes. When I saw Dr. Strickland, she wasted no time and knew exactly what the issue was and what we needed to do. She assured me that this was common in female athletes. There was even a pro women's soccer player going under for a similar surgery when I had surgery.

HSS was so amazing to me and to this day is the reason at 31 years old I am still playing soccer competitively. HSS was so very compassionate towards my needs through the surgery process, I couldn't have asked for a better team. When I went back to New Jersey for recovery, I wasn't at a rehab place that I thought would help me to get back to where I wanted to be soccer wise. Dr. Strickland had me see Theresa at HSS Rehabilitation and suggested JAG therapy in NJ to help me. I rehabbed at JAG Therapy until May 2014 where I went back under for surgery at HSS for hardware removal in my knee. I rehabbed myself and then entered a pro soccer combine in 2015 with hopes to get to where I wanted to be. I was offered a trial season to sign a contract with Sweden to play pro soccer after that combine. To me that meant the world. I ultimately did not end up going to Sweden, but I am still playing competitive soccer and I am forever grateful for all of the doctors, professionals, nurses and staff at HSS.
