I am almost 63 yrs. old, a sanitation worker and a carpenter. I’ve played all major sports plus paddle ball and racquetball for as long as I can remember. I’ve lifted weights and loved bodybuilding since my early teens and even ran the NYC Marathon 20 yrs. ago. I love being active and physical at work or play. It’s always made me feel physically and mentally young. However, about 5 yrs. ago I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both hips and other joints as well. I worked in pain and did light exercise but learned to manage the pain with some ibuprofen and eating foods that might lessen the inflammation. I gave up any and all high impact activities.

The osteoarthritis symptoms worsened when recent x-rays revealed the cartilage in my right hip basically disappeared and I was bone-on-bone. The pain was unbearable whether I was standing, sitting or even sleeping! I no longer felt young but now broken down and old. Chronic pain will do that. So I made the decision that would change my life. I heard about joint replacement surgery in the past but never figured I’d need it? Until now.

I chose HSS and after researching surgeons and reviewing their profiles I picked my surgeon, Dr. Jonathan M. Vigdorchik. He performed a total hip replacement utilizing today’s most advanced methods. His skill, knowledge, professionalism and compassion made my decision even more satisfying. From consultation to surgery then my post-op evaluation and everything in between like preparation screenings and rehabilitation, it’s just one month after surgery and I’m happy and alive once again! I have so much energy and am also getting stronger. I’m also committed to following the PT program as prescribed. That’s how great I feel. I look forward to even better days ahead with family, friends and coworkers. So I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Vigdorchik, his medical staff including physicians assistant Nicole, practice manager Lisa and the entire HSS team. I can’t thank you enough for all that you’ve done for me and if I ever need a new left hip, I know where to find you.
