As a life long skier, it was incredibly troubling to not only ski through the pain, but to also struggle to simply buckle my boots. And the pain wasn't isolated to skiing. Because of the impingement, I was unable to stand up straight while walking. Even putting on my socks was difficult.
I consulted local orthopedists, had x-rays and MRIs taken, and had several shots. Nothing seem to work. I was steered towards HSS by a couple friends who have had similar issues. I did my research and reached out to Dr. McLawhorn's office to set up a consultation. I was able to get in rather quickly at the new location in Stamford. Dr. McLawhorn was all business, for which I was pleasantly surprised. He confirmed my arthritis on both hips and agreed total hip replacement (THR) would remedy the issue and I'd be back to normal activity in no time.
I finished out the 21/22 ski season and had my first hip replaced in mid-May '22. I was back to regular activity by mid-July. I had the 2nd hip replaced in October '22. I was on skis by mid-January '23. I enjoyed 20+ days on the mountain w/ ZERO pain!
