I was having a breakout year during the 2018-19 season, averaging a career high in points and playing a big role off the bench on our team that was battling for a playoff spot. In the first game of the season, my hand got caught in an opponent’s jersey and I developed a stinging sensation that never really left me. I began to lose strength in my hand throughout the season and decided I needed to meet with a specialist. Dr. Riley Williams introduced me to Dr. Michelle Carlson at HSS and she determined that I needed surgery to repair a torn ligament in my thumb.
I felt comfortable going into surgery with Dr. Carlson as she had a reputation of being one of the top hand specialists in the country. She assured me I would be back on the court within six to eight weeks to help my teammates in our playoff push. Within days of the surgery, I was on a stationary bike working out and running a couple of weeks later. I ended up coming back in just under five weeks and helped our team earn the sixth seed in the playoffs. I can’t thank Dr. Williams and Dr. Carlson enough for fixing my thumb and getting me back on the court so quickly.
