“You put your new hip in! You put your new hip out!” I could be heard singing that at different events after my hip replacement at Hospital for Special Surgery in July 2014. That surgery allowed me to enjoy the fun parts of life, but also enabled me to return to my very active ministry of college teaching, working with young adults who want to be teachers. Fast forward to the Fall of 2019, when I realized that I needed a knee replacement. Without hesitation, I returned to my Hospital for Special Surgery, and Dr. David Mayman worked his magic in June 2020. Once again, I am able to enjoy the fun parts of life but also to return to the classroom to share my love of teaching.
I am singing a different verse these days, “You put your new knee in! You put your new knee out!” As a School Sister of Notre Dame, I thank God every day for Dr. Mayman and all the wonderful medical professionals and staff at my Hospital for Special Surgery. I am able to enjoy work and play, and really, “that’s what it’s all about!”
