I am an RN working at HSS for the last 19 years. On June 4, 2017 my whole world turned upside down after I was in a rear end motor vehicle accident that involved 4 cars. I sustained multiple injuries including a concussion and neck injury. During the next months to follow, I was receiving multidisciplinary treatments of medications, physical therapy and acupuncture....none of which brought me relief for the awful symptoms that still continued. I was experiencing daily dizziness, vertigo, balance problems, trouble walking on my own, difficulty concentrating and focusing my eyes, daily migraines, the sensation of nausea 24 hours a day, and feeling flustered and overwhelmed just by talking on the phone. I knew something was very wrong. I was not able to work nor drive. Many months were passing by with little improvement of my symptoms so I decided to get another opinion with doctors I knew and trusted for many years.

I went to see Dr. Sama at HSS, who then requested that I see Dr. Shetty and her Concussion team for my post-concussive symptoms. This is where I began to regain control of my life. Dr. Shetty understood all the terrible symptoms I had been experiencing after the accident. She put together a treatment plan that truly allows your brain to recoup itself. After three months of following Dr. Shetty's concussion treatment plan, I was well enough to return to work on a part time basis. I still continue to work with her team and hope to regain my full time status soon. My neck continues to make remarkable progress thanks to my amazing physical therapist Andrea Papson. Peter Schultz has literally given me my life back by helping to restore my balance and giving me my independence again. It's been great to come back to my home away from home and take care of patients after their surgeries and work together with my coworkers again. I did not think I was ever going to see that day again. Thanks to the wonderful doctors at HSS, I am so happy to be back to nursing and be of part of our truly amazing team. It's such an honor to be a member of this prestigious institution that has such a great impact on people's lives. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Shetty and her wonderful, caring team that worked so hard to get me back to living my life and to Dr. Sama for opening the door to my recovery. It's been wonderful being back!
