After receiving 9 surgeries as an adolescent, I came to HSS as an adult to finish evening out my congenital limb-length discrepancy. While lengthening seems to be the name of the game, I had already endured two of these procedures, and I knew shortening my other limb would be the best option for me. Dr. Rozbruch (eventually) supported my decision, and together we developed a plan that involved both shortening and rotating my long bones.

Going through similar procedures as both a child and an adult gave me a lot of perspective on health care and health-related disruptions in life. I realized the impact I could have on the lives of so many if I became a physician myself. So, I decided to return to school. I took all the prerequisites, studied long and hard for the MCAT, and sent in my applications. It has been two years since finishing my procedures with HSS, and I will be starting my medical degree this summer!

Best of luck on your own journey.
