I was at my prime last September when, at the age of 75, after having enjoyed the most wonderful swim of the summer on Long Island, I went in to shower and slipped, fracturing both the tibia and the fibula on my ankle. A friend sent me to Dr. Donna Astion at Hospital for Special Surgery and she kindly came to the rescue by fully diagnosing the situation, before referring me to Dr. Constantine Demetracopoulos for surgery. It has been my great fortune to have been in the excellent care of Dr. Demetracopoulos to this day! Right from my first appointment with him, he patiently and expertly dealt with extremely problematic and extensive break blistering that persisted for two weeks before he could operate. Everything has proceeded perfectly ever since the day of the surgery. It has been an amazing experience without a single flaw! I also had the very best of care during my three days at Hospital for Special Surgery, during which I felt no pain or discomfort.
Dr. Demetracopoulos carefully explored with me my post-care options and I ended up spending five, non-weight-bearing, very happy weeks at the Jewish Home Lifecare, where they kept in close communication with my surgeon and oversaw all my visits with him. When I left the Jewish Home they then made all the arrangements for me to have home care with four, highly capable, caregivers. When this came to an end, both the Jewish Home and Dr. Demetracopoulos set me up for two months with Riverside Physical Therapy in my neighborhood. Starting with Dr. Demetracopoulos and Hospital for Special Surgery, the medical care and the whole system worked beautifully for me – for which I have the highest of praise.
On both a professional and personal level, Dr. Demetracopoulos is the brightest, kindest, and most competent doctor I have ever encountered. In terms of my ankle, everything works wonderfully, with no pain, and two scars that are hardly noticeable.
