I was involved in a head-on collision 32 years ago in Newburgh NY and sustained multiple fractures of right leg and ankle. My right heel was also crushed. Three hospitals would not attempt to repair and suggested amputation. With many operations, Dr. Helfet saved my leg (I was here for 2 1/2 months).
