Thank you for the opportunity to express my gratitude to Mathias Bostrom, MD, his staff and all at HSS.
I had bilateral knee replacement in May, 2012. The need was evident. I had been a runner for many years, competing respectably in half marathons, 10Ks and 5Ks, once-in-awhile placing in my age category. Because of meniscus injuries I had to cease running, and eventually I was not able to walk 50 yards without stopping due to knee pain.
I tried some stop-gap methods such as cortisone injections, but the pain was interfering with my desire to maintain a very active lifestyle.
Dr. Bostrom and company fixed me!! Regarding the attached photos the very tentative biking happened within 4 months of surgery, and the snow shoeing within 7 months. That's me on top of Mount Beacon in Hudson Highlands after 6 months!!
I could not be happier three years later!!! I workout vigorously five days per week including spinning, elliptical and stair master. My new post surgery PB on the stair master is 213 flights in 45minutes. Most importantly, I am able to mostly keep up with my two grandchildren, including carrying them on my shoulders for walks. It could not be better !!
Knee replacement was a serious decision, but HSS was there with meaningful orientation and proper preparation and post surgery TLC.
Bottom line: I have NO regrets whatsoever.
I will be eternally grateful to all those, including my family, who helped me "get back in the game," in ways I probably had not imagined.
Thank you a million times over!!!
