I had been dealing with shoulder pain for over 3 years. It had gotten to the point that I was actually losing sleep due to the pain keeping me awake at night. My local orthopedic doctor had prescribed an MRI which came back as showing no tears or damage. Over the course of 2 years, I had gone to physical therapy and received 2 cortisone injections. This past summer, 2015, the pain had gotten to the point to where I couldn’t throw a ball nor lift my arm past a certain point. I visited a local orthopedic practice, had another MRI and this showed that I now had 3 tears in my rotator cuff and a torn labrum. I was given a 3rd injection and then told that I should speak to an orthopedic surgeon. It was then that I was referred to Dr. MacGillivray at HSS by a family friend. After researching Dr. MacGillivray, I knew immediately that I wanted to get his opinion on my condition. Dr. MacGillivray suggested that I have surgery to repair the tears. This was my first surgery and I was a little nervous. The entire staff at HSS made it easier for me to go through the process. From the first appointment, through surgery and my follow up visits, everyone in Dr. MacGillivray’s office have been both professional and extremely courteous. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
I have since referred a couple of my friends to Dr. MacGillivray for his services. I would not hesitate to refer anyone to him. Should I ever need to have orthopedic surgery again, I will definitely go back to HSS and Dr. MacGillivray.
