In December 2024, I slipped on ice in the driveway and broke my femur. My right foot was actually turned 90 degrees from where it belonged. A local hospital put me back together and recovery was slow and painful. I spent several weeks in a special care rehab and couldn't wait to go home. Seven months later, they told me it had not healed properly and called it a non-union.
I think I'm a pretty tough guy, but I was close to tears at the thought of going through surgery again. My wife is a nurse and decided to contact HSS. Two weeks later, we visited Dr. Ricci. He assured me that he could help, noting that instead of an emergency situation, this would be carefully planned, replacing a rod they put in my leg with a special plate, fixing one leg that was now shorter than the other, and a foot that wasn't pigeon toed before the injury.
I had confidence in Dr. Ricci, and wasn't nervously anticipating the July 17th surgery. I actually went home the next day! In less than three months, I went from a walker, to a cane, and will walk normally again after a few more physical therapy visits.
Thanks to Dr. Ricci, and my wife, for taking care of me and giving this story a much better ending!
