Basketball was a big part of my life, playing in college and through my mid-40s. I also enjoyed running as a means to keep fit. In August 2021 all that came to a halt with pain that started at the beginning of a Sunday morning run. I tried rest, pain relievers, and swimming to delay any medical intervention. My condition eventually deteriorated where I couldn't walk a mile without having to rest or take pain relievers. I put off vacations that would require city exploring or hiking in the National Parks of the US. I 'caved' and sought help from HSS in August 2023. I met with Dr. McLawhorn and he patiently answered all the questions I had that kept me away from a hip replacement surgery. I understood and pursued his recommendation. The recovery was straightforward and I followed the guidance and milestones he provided. My current lifestyle is amazingly pain-free, the performance of the joint has blown away my expectations prior to the surgery. I recently played in a basketball game with my daughter (parents vs daughters). I was previously resigned to sitting on the sidelines for such events but now I have the confidence in a new joint and a new life. I am just back from a vacation to the National Parks of Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon which entailed 4+ hour hikes daily. I truly feel I have my old life back and I am very grateful to Dr. McLawhorn and his talented team that made the process go flawlessly. My only regret is that I let 2 years pass before seeking his help.
