I had chronic knee pain for years and went for a meniscus surgery 12 years ago. The doctor told me that my knee was 'bone on bone' and said eventually I would need my knee replaced. I tried the injections, but still had pain. I could not walk or stand for more than 30 minutes without inflammation and pain.
I finally decided to go for it and visited Dr. DiFelice at the HSS Paramus office. He confirmed my condition and suggested a partial knee replacement. I had this done at HSS in late October. They had me walking up stairs 4 hours after the surgery. I walked with a cane, but did not need it after the first week. It hurt, but it got better each day.
I had 2 weeks of in-home therapy. I then did out-patient therapy 3 times a week for 8 weeks. I continue to work out 3 or 4 days a week on an exercise bike and with weight training. My picture shows my son and me in Florence, Italy where I visited last month. It was 5 months post surgery and I walked up to 7 miles a day with no pain.
I have a minor issue with nerve damage due to the surgery, but it should diminish over time. Overall it was very successful. Many thanks to the team at HSS.
April 19, 2022:
I had a partial knee replacement on my left knee in October. The surgery was performed by Dr. Gregory DiFelice, who performed a partial replacement on my right knee almost 6 years ago. I am very happy with the results. I attended a holiday dance seven weeks later and never left the dance floor.
The pain leading up to this surgery was very different than my previous event. My first knee hurt for over 10 years prior to successful replacement. This knee began hurting about a year ago and progressed rapidly, causing many sleepless nights.
The surgery was very easy as I had several visits at HSS Paramus prior to the surgery at the Main Campus in NYC. HSS Paramus now offers an onsite MRI, which moved things forward rapidly. The experience in NYC was easy as parking is next door, and the building is located on the highway. They are very professional as this is their everyday business.
I have to say that having a great doctor and hospital was vital to my experience. I must also stress that following the prescribed therapy made things a lot smoother.
I fully recommend Dr. Gregory DiFelice and HSS!
