After more than 5 years of (right) foot pain, swelling, lots of anti-inflammatory drugs, etc., my GP referred me to HSS and Dr. Cody. At this stage my pain was intolerable. Unable to walk properly my quality of life had taken a nosedive. My podiatrist had recommended Yale and different foot specialist. I, of course, did my due diligence. HSS has an unrivaled world-class reputation for orthopedic surgery. Dr. Cody, too, has an outstanding reputation. The scene was set and I had my first consult. The exam was simple, diagnostic and explained at each stage. The x-ray similarly analyzed and explained. That resulted, in the now obvious to me, surgical procedure. It was a big surgery; 3 months of no weight-bearing, followed by physio. If I elected not to have surgery the consequences down the line were dire for my foot and my quality of life. This is all obvious good consulting process. But that is not the key thing. It was all calmly explained and all my questions were answered. I was reassured by the candid, open conversations with Dr. Cody.

The hospital was quick to schedule the procedure as my condition was deteriorating. The pre-op was perfect and reassuring. The post-op was also calmly explained to me. Dr. Cody also, importantly, briefed my wife, realizing that there are two people affected - the patient and the caregiver upon whom I would be reliant for at least 3 months. Immediately after the surgery I was released home. Dr. Cody called in the evening to inquire about my well-being. The follow up care, exams, x-rays, MRIs, etc., were all part of the process. The BUT is that all this followed a logical process, of where the healing was at, what I could do next to facilitate my recovery together with Dr. Cody, and her team being available should I have issues or questions. The post-op has been simple - I trusted the expert and her team, followed the instructions and am now one year free of pain, able to resume my normal life, including running! My quality of life is back to normal.
