On May 25, 2010, I survived a head-on collision on Route-87. An 89-year-old man with dementia crossed over the meridian and hit me head on. After paramedics took 1 1/2 hours to free me from the vehicle, I was air lifted to a facility in Westchester, who wanted to amputate my lower right leg. At this facility, I had 2 surgeries there to "clean out" the right tibia and leg. My ankle was crushed from the accident. When I was there, I called my friend to help me. My friend, who used to be a PA at HSS, recommended me to Dr. Helfet, who eventually saved my leg after 3 surgeries. I consider him to be the Guru of orthopedic surgeons. Six months after the surgeries, I was back in high heels. Soon after that, I could hike mountains. If it was not for Dr. Helfet and HSS, I would not be where I am today.
I have uploaded a photo taken of me on 6/16/2018 after I climbed the Woodstock Mountain Overlook.
