On October 9, 2015, after almost 10 years of kiteboarding, a confluence of bizarre events forced me into a bad landing after performing a maneuver and I immediately blew out the MCL and PCL of my left knee. After 30 years of extreme free ride sports, this was clearly my worst injury and I was terrified that I would never be able to fully enjoy such sports again. Although I live in Idaho right now, I grew up in NY/NJ and through family and friends I quickly learned that HSS was THE place to go. Dr. Hannafin's office got me in quickly and I was extremely impressed with the initial consultation and the time and attention that was given to me by her and her PA Denise Verni. I knew from the start that I was in good hands and that I was going to be holistically treated as a person and not just as another knee injury. As I had hoped and expected, the surgery went well and the follow up care was first class. With the world class surgery, physical therapy (I was aggressive) and knee brace for which I was fitted, I was comfortably back on the water within 6 months. 8 months post-surgery I had these pictures taken in the Columbia River Gorge with 35mph winds. Now, two years post-surgery I sometimes even forget my knee brace in my van. Dr. Hannafin and Denise Verni PA were life savers and are with me in spirit on the water.
