I had severe sciatica and back pain, which not only prevented me from doing athletic activities but made standing, walking and sitting awful. Lying on my back was about the only consistent relief. In December of 2017, Dr. Matthew Cunningham performed a laminectomy and spinal decompression on L4, L5, and S1. Dr. Cunningham recommended that procedure instead of a spinal fusion. Great advice. It took 8 months for a complete recovery, but since September of 2018 I'm back to my prior level of activity. Dr. Cunningham's physician assistant, Brenda Chalen, was of great assistance and recommended a set of core exercises to strengthen my support system for my back.

This past winter, 2019, I was able to ski over 50 runs in Colorado without any issues and in May I was able to complete my first mini-sprint triathlon in Austin, Texas. I'm now able to bike 10-20 miles a day on a local rail trail. In short, I'm back!

My thanks to Dr. Cunningham, Brenda, and their entire supporting staff, especially Mickey and Tina.

Sincerely,

Paul Carroll
