I'm 78 years old and have been an active tennis player for over 30 years. Last year, i began to feel knee pain in both knees. We live on the second floor of a condo with 16 steps to negotiate every day. I tried injections and physical therapy with no positive results. I decided that to check with HSS to see what they might be able to do to improve my condition.
I met with Dr. Padgett at the recommendation of a friend who had success with him. Dr. Padgett has a wonderful "bedside manner" and, after reviewing my x-rays, determined that I was a perfect candidate for partial knee replacement surgery. I decided to move forward with partials because I didn't want to have more surgery done than was absolutely necessary and because the projected lifespan for partials is the same for full and partial knee replacements.
On May 15, 2018, my right knee was done. Make no mistake, those first two weeks after surgery were filled with pain and discomfort despite pain medication, but HSS and home care providers provided perspective and encouragement that what I was experiencing was normal so I followed their instructions and endured the pain while studiously doing the recommended exercises to straighten and bend my knees. By August, much to my happiness, I was playing tennis again.
On October 15th, I had my left knee done. On both occasions, Dr. Padgett as well as all of the HSS staff were very helpful on the surgery days, during my overnight stays, during post-surgery and home care periods.
I look forward to being back on the tennis court with my buddies by January and am grateful to HSS for their wonderful care. I also look forward to being able to go up and down stairs again without pain and enjoying "face-time" on the floor with our new granddaughter in the near future.
