I am a collegiate Cross Country and Track & Field runner who first came to Dr. Positano about 2.5 years ago after some bad foot pain that was especially present when I was running. X-rays showed a tarsal coalition in my foot, a condition that I was born with that limited my mobility. This is a condition I knew I had, but it had never bothered me before so it was concerning to be having bad pain. Other doctors suggested that the only way to treat this pain would be a highly risky surgery to separate the coalition and that there was a chance I may not be able to run competitively after the surgery, otherwise I would just have to deal with the pain. This was devastating to hear, as running is one of the most important things in my life, and I did not want to think of a world where I would not be able to do what I love. However, upon seeing Dr. Positano, I felt a lot more at ease. He determined that most of the pain was coming from scar tissue in my foot, and not the coalition directly. He was confident that he could relieve my pain with his cutting-edge treatment without the need for surgery. While there may not have been a significant improvement right away, after coming for treatment consistently for a few weeks and listening to Dr. Positano's advice about what I should be doing at home, my pain began to considerably improve. Fast forward 2.5 years, I am at a point where my foot rarely gives me issues. I am running 60 miles a week on a regular basis and running faster times than ever. Dr. Positano is an excellent doctor and a great man. I am so grateful that I found him and that I was spared from an unnecessary and risky surgery that would have been debilitating and painful.
