After dealing with years of progressively worsening lower back pain/sciatica caused by several falls, hereditary conditions such as spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, instability and herniated discs, I researched and found Dr. Matthew Cunningham at HSS. I instantly liked and felt comfortable with Dr. Cunningham at my initial appointment. He spent so much time with me on each of my visits, explaining his views and possible solutions to my back issues. He listened to my concerns patiently, as I came to the conclusion that surgery was the only solution for me. On October 13, 2014, I had a spinal fusion/decompression done by Dr. Cunningham. My hospital stay was five days, during which I saw Dr. Cunningham daily. His compassion was extraordinary and very encouraging for my recovery. I was so impressed not only with Dr. Cunningham, but with every professional I encountered at HSS: Dr. Craig, my nurses, physician assistants, nurses' aides, physical therapists, were all amazing in their patient care. Dr. Cunningham is still easily accessible to me even one year after surgery, as are Tina, his upbeat and super efficient office manager, and Rebecca, his receptionist. Their level of compassion and professionalism is unsurpassed by any healthcare professional I have ever encountered. Dr. Cunningham saved me from a life of pain and disability and I am eternally grateful to him. I am so happy I found and chose Dr. Cunningham for my treatment!
