It was awesome. I received treatment from Dr. Cammisa, the best in the business, for a herniated disc at the L5/S1 level. The disc herniated due to a combination of degenerative spinal disease and years of heavy lifting. While my discs were getting weaker and more unhealthy, my muscles were getting stronger and bigger – not a good combination. After the herniation event, which actually occurred while stretching in bed, I had severe sciatica to the point where I could not get up and put pressure on my right leg without becoming dizzy with pain. After an epidural did not help my symptoms, I decided to take the route of surgery. It was the right decision and Dr. Cammisa's strong track record of success and confidence helped me feel assured throughout the process.
The nurses and healthcare professionals I had during my 23 hour stay at the hospital were gracious, attentive and very positive. There was never a moment I did not feel I was being taken care of. If you are to go through a spinal surgery, I recommend HSS all the way. They are the best from the top to the bottom and you deserve the best. Your health, in the end, is invaluable.
