My experience at HSS Stamford was nothing short of amazing!
At my initial evaluation at the HSS Stamford Outpatient Center, Dr. Daphne Scott suggested I seek a surgical consult while beginning physical therapy, given the x-rays. Dr. McLawhorn, my surgeon, discussed all the options and timing with me, which was very comforting as I had never had surgery. Once I decided to move ahead with anterior hip surgery, Dr. McLawhorn's office staff was very helpful in getting surgery scheduled in a timely fashion so I would be recovered in time for our son's wedding. And, the staff and facility at HSS Orthopedics with Stamford Health were really incredible. Clearly everyone who goes to HSS is treated as a VIP.
Today is my 6 week anniversary and I was cleared to return to normal activities. In summary, I was in the hospital one night, I returned to work virtually after five days, I began walking with a walker at a community track 4 days after surgery, I moved to a cane inside my home 6 days after surgery, I walked outside with no cane 3 weeks after surgery and with physical therapy approval I returned to the treadmill and recumbent bike a week ago. Wow!
In closing, I could not more highly recommend Dr. McLawhorn. He is simply a great surgeon, who my wife fondly refers to as being Clark Kent - Superman like. And, being in good shape when I went into surgery and the anterior approach really helped me get BACK IN THE GAME sooner than I even hoped.
If you are considering hip surgery but have some of the same fears I had, don't wait until the bitter end. Place trust in HSS and their physicians and staff and know that if you choose to go to HSS, you will receive extraordinary care. And, most importantly, hip pain will soon be a distant memory.
Thank you HSS!
