My story probably begins like most of you, with the onset of pain. Everything appeared well until gradually simple activities such as walking, and ascending stairs or negotiating uneven planes are no longer pain free. I'm an active person. I've played ice hockey most of my life, and after that I've remained active in a gym with a program involving cardio and some strength training. Needless to say everything had changed.
My next step of having an x-ray revealed moderate arthritis and bone spurs. Now I'm off to physical therapy with the hope that surgery will not be necessary. After reaching a plateau with my PT five weeks in, I decide to have an MRI. It's now even clearer that I'm going to need consults with surgeons.
I'm very grateful to the people in my life who connected me with Dr. Jose Rodriguez. I was already interested in the anterior surgical approach, if I was going to need a total hip replacement. After an insightful and uplifting conversation he confirmed hip replacement surgery was in my future. My meeting with him left me convinced, and confident that I was in the right place.
Looking back after just my seven week follow up today June 21st, I can say my entire experience was relatively easy. Everything that I was told about my surgery and recovery was spot on. Dr. Rodriguez, his entire office team, and the staff at HSS, made this for me, the only place to have had this surgery.
