Last May, I fell in the street and ended up dislocating my shoulder. Not really a fun moment, especially in the middle of the COVID pandemic. I was told at the emergency room to consult an orthopedic surgeon. A couple of friends recommended that I go to HSS and I couldn't be happier to have made that decision. I met with Dr. DiFelice and he confirmed that I had a pretty bad injury as I fractured a small piece of the glenoid, a fracture about half the size of a quarter but a really important one. Surgery wasn't necessarily the thing that I wanted to hear but I immediately felt comfortable and had the feeling that I was in the right hands.
A few days later the surgery went well and they were able to perform it via arthroscopy which was more than ideal! I am still amazed that they were able to put two screws in such a small piece of bone, also pretty impressed that I barely had any pain in the following days. In fact I didn't take any painkillers. The follow up surgery to remove the screws went extremely well too. 8 months later and a bunch of PT I pretty much can use my right arm as if nothing happened. I am so grateful to have met Dr. DiFelice, Rob his PA and their whole team.
I have lived all around the world for the past 20 years and rarely have I experienced such hospitality; everyone was so thoughtful, kind, genuine, made me feel comfortable and seemed to care a lot. I work in restaurants and making people feel good is just a daily goal. Few places do it very well, HSS crushed it. Not only do they have top notch medical experts but their culture is also quite special!
With gratitude,
Michael
