Meadow loves surfing and has always gone out surfing with a guide. While on vacation in Costa Rica, she was surfing daily with her guide and twin brother. However, she came to HSS one week after a very traumatic surfing accident in Costa Rica. She hit her head on a rock while surfing in the water, then blacked out temporarily in the water, followed by the surfboard hitting her on the head. She and her twin brother were taken out by the guide on a chartered boat.
When the accident happened, she was immediately taken in the ambulance for a long ride to the first hospital. A CT scan showed there was no brain swelling or bleeding. She then was medically airlifted that night, around midnight, with her family in tow the capital city of San Jose to spend the night in pediatric neurology for observation. She was released the following day and we flew back immediately. By the time she came to HSS, Meadow was in poor shape. Daily vertigo, headaches, head pain, endless nausea and lightheadedness, etc. Under Dr Shetty's care and supervision, Meadow was navigated back to health and a full recovery. Dr Shetty provided a full, holistic approach to Meadow's recovery which included athletic therapy, vestibular therapy, acupuncture, cognitive behavioral sessions with a concussion - specialist therapist. Dr Shetty truly provided a step by step plan of recovery that included careful monitoring, weekly revised plans to provide to the school which allowed for increased physical and cognitive functioning. We are so grateful for the caring, truly loving, experience that Dr. Shetty and her amazing team provided to Meadow and even myself. It was a six week process of A+ medical supervision and guidance led by brilliant Dr. Shetty.
Thank you Dr. Shetty and HSS!
