The tip of my elbow broke off when I fell from my bicycle onto my bent elbow. The pain was so extreme I struggled to remain conscious and didn’t realize I’d also fractured two knuckles of my other hand. An ambulance brought me to a local hospital, where admission and surgery was recommended. I called Dr. Joseph Lane, who treats me for osteoporosis, for advise. It was a Saturday evening but he called me right back. He offered admission to NYP Hospital. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Lane for guiding me into the superb hands of orthopedic trauma surgeon Dr. Daniel Dziadosz. Dr. Dziadosz fixed my elbow (literally!) and carefully monitored my progress afterwards. He helped me navigate my return to work and life in general. He was supportive and encouraging throughout my recovery. Dr. Dziadosz operated on my elbow a second time recently to remove the hardware used for the repair a year and a half ago. This surgery was elective and considered together carefully. By Day 1 post-op I knew we’d made the right decision. Two weeks later, now that the stitches were removed and my recovery is progressing quickly, I am actually saddened to have no further reason to see Dr. Dziadosz again. Throughout this ordeal, it’s been easy to develop a warm relationship with him and his team (PA Austin Milan and, in the office, Eloina). Dr. Dziadosz is so smart, funny, engaging and just plain cool, my husband and I both will miss my office visits with him. If I ever have another broken bone, he’s the one I will go to. I’ve had seven other previous orthopedic surgeries to repair broken bones (knee and leg, foot, both shoulders, hand and wrist), from Vail, CO to Long Island, NY. HSS at NYP is the best. From the minute one walks in the door and all the way through to the end result, these affiliated hospitals run like well oiled machines, staffed by well trained and professional staff, with the best surgeons across the country. It makes a huge difference in one’s life. I’m so grateful to Dr. Dziadosz and Austin, Dr. Lane, the anesthesiologists, the hand OT, and nurses, all for their expert and compassionate care. It doesn’t get any better than this. I will be forever grateful!
