I had been told in my teenage years that I would probably be a candidate for hip replacements as my hips had been slipping and clicking around in my shallow hip sockets my whole life. But we were shocked when my absolutely-no-aches-or-pains husband had a rather sudden onset of hip pain which revealed his need for double hip replacement! Being the good sport that I am, I decided to let him be the guinea pig!! Mike had his first hip done by Dr. Bostrom in June of 2012. He had his second done in July of 2013. They both went so well that it gave me the push I needed to have my first done in September of 2013. I followed up with my second in March 2014.
Mike's and my goal was to resume our active lifestyle and be ready to play with our grandchildren by our 60's. We are still waiting for the grand kids to arrive, but we are thoroughly enjoying hanging out with and keeping up with our three adult children and their husbands, fiances, and girlfriends.
The pictures below are of us hiking in a park in Toronto with our new puppy, while on a visit to our second daughter and our future son-in-law. We are both so incredibly thankful to be enjoying pain free movement and the ability to be active and mobile.
Our advice to anyone who is hesitant to take this very important step is don't be. In the grand scheme of life, this, for both Mike and I, was merely an inconvenience that needed to be attended to and fixed. We were nervous of course. It's a big step. But Dr. Bostrom and the staff at HSS were so professional, so competent, and so helpful that we couldn't help but feel that this was going to turn out just the way it did.......perfectly!
We will be forever thankful for the incredible care we received at Hospital for Special Surgery.
