At age 67, after being told by another local physician that I should wait another 5 or 6 years to get the knee replacement I would obviously need, and that, in the interim, I could no longer do the activities that helped define my life - hiking, fast walking, vacations that included days of long walking, I decided to go to HSS for a second opinion. After looking at my X-rays, Dr. Haas saw no reason why it shouldn't be done then. I did it. My treatment and care at HSS was marvelous. I went home and with the help of a wonderful physical therapist, I was able within 3 1/2 months to achieve the same bend in my new knee that I had in my other, beautifully functioning knee. Within less than a year I was hiking the Mt. Holyoke mountain range, and crawling around on the floor with my grandkids. I've climbed Mt. Etna, tried my hand at sailing, and walked all over the hills of Amalfi without any issue. Five years later and I still can do everything I want. Ask me if I'm glad I didn't wait and had the good sense to go to HSS. Thank you, thank you, thank you HSS!
