On Super Bowl Sunday night, I took a fall and landed directly on my right shoulder. I went to the nearest emergency room, where I was told I had two broken bones and needed to see an orthopedic surgeon. The very next morning, I called HSS, as I was already a patient there for my knees. Since my regular physician, Dr. Stucken, was on vacation, his PA referred me to Dr. Colasanti.
They were able to get me in right away. After taking x-rays, Dr. Colasanti explained that I actually had four broken bones and that my shoulder was dislocated by five inches. He took the time to draw a picture to show exactly what was going on and, most importantly, spoke to my husband and me in terms we could easily understand.
Dr. Colasanti presented me with three treatment options. When I asked what he would do if he were in my position, he honestly recommended reverse shoulder replacement surgery. I asked about his success rate, felt confident in his response, and we moved forward with scheduling the surgery.
Throughout the entire process, Dr. Colasanti was wonderful - caring, empathetic, and incredibly thorough. I truly thank God for him and his assistant, Sophie. I had never experienced anything like this before, and they helped keep me calm and grounded every step of the way.
I am still healing and currently undergoing therapy, with a follow-up appointment scheduled in three weeks. I am extremely grateful for Dr. Colasanti and for HSS, and I am already recommending him to others. Thank you.
